'Twas the Night Before EXEMas

December 24, 2024

I didn't think I'd have the time to myself and/or have internet access during this trip to write anything out, but here I am, typing away on my ThinkPad running GNU/Linux just as Stallman intended... If he used a distro that wasn't Linux-libre, had no qualms using Steam, and preferred engaging in the inane culture of our beloved Vietnamese cow herding forum.

Anyways.

It's been one hell of a year for the thread, all things considered. We got to see the official release of OSF on GameJolt, and the meltdown the EXE community had over something from such an unclean place such as /exeg/ be held in high regard as a good example of what EXE games should strive to be: enjoyable and replayable. This just goes to show that it's not about clout and ref sheets, but real effort from people who have the drive to make something. This goes out to all of you on the OSF team: Hatcher, Godotanon, Yokuboanon, Giiv, Postman Anon, and anyone else I'm not familiar with. It couldn't have happened without (You). We might also have other games coming from our neck of the woods: 85.EXE, also from our talented Godotanon (and co?); and Parasite Tower (if the anon pulls himself out of the creative slump he's in). If memory serves, Needlefag also came back once or twice and dumped a lot of concept art of the levels for his Needlemouse game, though that could have been last year and the holidays are just fucking with my mind.

We got to see Revie step down from managing anything Faker related (who would have fucking guessed), MX be swapped around from one "owner" to the next over meme edits, and faces of all kinds come and go from the thread. Various web series, good OR bad, have updated a fair bit this year, such as Valle Verde, TMK, Power Star Archives, and whatever channel made THE BOILING ONE PHENOMENON (yes, the dude behind it seems to be working on their own mythos/world that's related to TBOP).

On the /exeg/arbage front, we go to see the return of the modded Minecraft server, the return of pasta/movie nights, and about the same amount of bullshit from yours truly with incompetent hosting methods regardless of the game. Not too much to talk about here, except maybe telling R*yuko to fuck off again. Who knows? Maybe I'll finally do maintenance on the server to prevent the egregious amount of downtime it has every Wednesday?

With thread #500 coming up in just five(!) threads and with the holiday season still in full swing, I figured I'd take the time to say something in the most winded way possible: thanks for the ride. It's been fun this year. The thread's seen its ups and downs, but overall we're better off than we were in 2023. We've got one thing that most in the creepypasta EXE community don't have: structure.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. Here's hoping that next year is even better.
